PS Query is a reporting utility provide by PeopleSoft to build queries and retrieve data from the database. It provides an intuitive graphical user interface that enables even non-technical users to create complex queries with very little training.
The primary tool for creating and editing queries is the Query Manager. Through the Query Manager, users can run queries and export them in various formats, such as HTML, Excel, and XML. You can access it by navigating to: Reporting Tools > Query > Query Manager.
Queries created here can also be used as data sources for XML Publisher.
We have covered creating an XML/BI Publisher report using PS Queries in detail elsewhere.
Query Viewer provides a simpler interface for running existing queries.
The Schedule Queries page allows users to schedule queries, which is especially useful for complex queries that take considerable time to run. On this page, you can select the query to be executed, provide the necessary prompt values, and use the features on the Process Scheduler Request to schedule the query.
Security is a critical aspect of working with PeopleSoft Query, ensuring that users only access data they are authorized to see. For more information on how this security works, refer to our Query Security post.
Like many other components in PeopleSoft, Queries are also metadata-driven. We have a separate post that covers the tables used for Queries.
Does XML Publisher allow for multiple data sources. If so do you have an example of how it’s done?
Hi Dorothea Johnson,
For an XMLP report, you can associate a Connected Query, PS Query or XML File as the data source; but only one per report.
Please post details of your requirement so that I can tailor the response.
